Knowledge-based industries: R&D activities without borders

A  two-day workshop that gathered the main stakeholders of the Argentinean Technology Transfer ecosystem was held in the Polo Cientfico Tecnologico of Buenos Aires between the 3rd and 4th of june 2019.  The aim of the workshop was to exchange good practices and discuss about the strategies to better internationalise the work of the Technology Transfer offices. A number of international projects co-founded by the European Commission and regional agencies were presented in order to learn from their main outputs and results.

The EU representatives shared its experience in bridging science and the private sector, transferring technology and ideas from the research base into start-ups and industry. The event was by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology of Argentina to celebrate the 20 year milestone of collaboration between Argentina and the European Commision. Among the attendees where Tech Transfer Offices; public and private technology centres; university technological TT offices; incubators and accelerators; chambers & associations and enterprises. Condor Technologies, represented by Alberto Patrón, its CEO, was part of the “Knowledge-based industries: R&D activities without borders” panel where he shared the long standing innovation experience of the company and its experience working with customers across the globe. He was also acting in the role of member of the board of the CESSI (Chamber of Software and IT of Argentina) and presented the main goals of the Institution. He showcased KPIs from the sector including the growing impact of global markets for Argentina’s IT industry, the employment and revenue growth of the sector, orders of magnitude above the local industries average, and the capabilities of a sector that has been recognized by its quality. Argentina is the host of the majority of the LATAM unicorns and got the first place of the Global Index in the Technology Skills category as presented in Harvard Business Review.

Alejandra Alvaredo, from the Sadosky Foundation who was moderating the panel, reflected on the importance of the experience of companies like Condor Technologies, that have proven through the years that investing in R&D provides a real competitive advantage for companies that dare to work in the global markets.
