Numbering Plan ChangeOi

Oi offers services that include fixed-line and mobile telecommunication services, broadband, subscription television, internet service providers (ISPs) and other services, for residential clients, small, medium and large companies, and governmental agencies. Oi operates in three Brazilian regions.

challenge

Taking into consideration the growth in subscribers in the country and the limitations of the existing numbering plan, ANATEL (Brasilian Regulation Authority) decided to expand the numbering plan by adding a ninth digit (nono digito). The migration to this new scheme included several phases in order to allow the population to get used to the new numbering format.

solution

Condor generated a SIP B2B that was in the middle of the calls and was able to perform the necessary number manipulation to adjust the numbers dialed with the old scheme to the new scheme. The B2B was also capable of reproducing a prerecorded message to the users providing information on the new scheme.

results

Condor deployed the solution in Oi’s network and performed several maintenance windows to activate the different features as long as the migration phases deadlines were met.
